Theseus, one of the great heroes of Greek myth, attends the wedding of the king of Lapith. The king also invited the half-human half-horse Centaurs. This scene depicts the aftermath of to much wine and a gruesome attack on the bride. The aggressive action is highlighted by a flickering flame as the silhouettes dance on the wall behind them. The cheerful color pallet reminds the viewer of the happy wedding celebration that passed.
